By Busy Door Guest Blogger | March 30, 2009

Mums are incredible people. They unselfishly care for their children making sure there are at all times neat clothes to wear, a tasty breakfast on the table, and plenty of love all around. They often put their loved ones ahead of themselves usually expecting nothing in return. That’s why holidays honoring mums have been held since long time ago, and most likely even before. The 1st official Mother’s Day in the US was on May 9, 1914 when President W. Wilson announced the second Sunday in May to be National Mothers Day, a day when mums throughout the USA have to be recognized for all they do.

Floral gifts have always been a traditional gift to present to mums on Mothers Day. Because any mom loves to get a flower arrangement or bouquet of her favored blossoms, there are lots of alternative means you can incorporate Mothers day Gifts into that special affirmation of your love. And, it is not important how old you are or if you’re helping your own kids celebrate mother, you can use flower arrangements to make this Mother’s Day one she’ll keep in her memory for years to come. Here are some great ideas for both younger children and for grown up children:

If you are planning to celebrate Mothers Day with dinner out, take some silverware and a soup bowl to your florist. Have the florist craft a flower arrangement in the bowl using the silverware as decorative elements to the floral creation. Place an invitation to the restaurant along with the flowers. For a public affirmation of your great love, take your mum out to a restaurant and arrange to have floral decoration delivered to the table.

Let your mom know she should have fun today. Gift wrap an interesting book and tell your local florist to include it with flowers and a hint reminding her to spend her day enjoying.

Send your mother a Mothers Day plant or tree. Take photos mounted in small frames or on decorative paper to your favorite florist and tell her or him to tie them to a small tree or plant using colorful ribbons.

Buy your mum a corsage to wear throughout the day. She will particularly enjoy this if she is planning to attend a worship service or other public event where everybody can see the present you have given her.

Invite Mom to a movie theatre. Take the movie section from a local newspaper to your local flower shop and ask her to put it in a box of flowers. Decorate the outside of the box with candy wrappers. Incorporate a card letting Mum know she will pick the movie and you will buy the tickets.

Send Mom on a floral treasure hunt. Purchase few single stems of beautiful flowers. Have your local florist place a flower tube on every one. Hide the flowers around the home and give Mum some clues to take her to every one. Make the last find a nice vase to put all the flowers in and a note letting her know what a treasure she is.

Breakfast in bed is a current Mothers Day custom. Place a lovely vase of her favorite flowers on the tray.

Whether her children are still young or already grown up, every mother has a right to a happy Mothers Day. Your florist will be delighted to help you declare your respect and love in almost any creative way you may think of. He might even be able to offer some great ideas of their own!
