Several reasons to get an LED TV instead of a regular LCD TV
By Busy Door Guest Blogger | November 30, 2009
The LED TV is now one of the latest products in home entertainment. What’s so special about these types of TVs? Is it something completely new or is it just the same type of LCD TV that we are used to with some modifications? With all the cheap LCD TV deals you can find right now, is it really worth it to get an LED TV?
A traditional LCD TV does not use the same amount of light emitting diodes or LEDs as the LED-backlit LCD TV. LCD stands for liquid crystal display and is the new “it” TV to have. Traditional LCD TVs normally mainly use cold cathode fluorescent lamps or CCFLs for the backlighting. However, the LED TVs use light emitting diodes or LED as a backlight.
One of the main challenges with the light emitting diode is the fact that it is too big for pixels on a television screen. You most likely will not find a true full LED TV in normal TV sizes. The current main use of a true LED technology is for massive screens such as those that are used at sports stadiums.
The main difference that exists between the two TVs is the fact that there is a greater degree of contrast with the LED LCD TV.. The images are clearer and that is great for the viewers who can see the contrast between a shadow and a background. This means that overall there is a much sharper resolution for the viewer.
Those that are more conscious of the environment are very pleased to hear that there is a forty per cent reduction in the amount of energy that is used by these new TVs. That would definitely be an advantage, especially for those that are environmentally conscious. Other advantages of a LED-backlit LCD TV would be a higher refresh frequency, slimmer lighter TV, and a wider range of colors.
The television has come along way and the LED TV is just the latest wave in the process. Sony started the revolution when it introduced the first LED TV and since then the technology has progressed in leaps and bounds. Now we can enjoy lighter, thinner, and more environmentally friendly TVs with an even greater viewing quality. If you look around, you can even find some great deals on these new LED TV on the various bargains shopping websites.
