Which 2010 Hybrid is Better?

By Busy Door Guest Blogger | November 30, 2009

Honda has announced the price tag on the new Insight. The Insight is much cheaper than the Prius by a few grand. Costing a few grand less earns the Insight the honor and distinction of cheapest hybrid in the U.S.

The Eco Assist feature will improve fuel economy be making sure that the driver does not accelerate too much and therefore waste gas.The ECO socring helps the drive to have a system that allows for the best fuel economy, which is related back to the operator in the form of a miles per gallon readout. The Insight uses the latest hybrid motor techniology called the IMA or integrated motor assist. Th IMA system is cheaper to manufacture, lighter than the original, and adds to the overall interior space. I-VTEC helps the Insight where power and efficiency is concerned. You can buy the Insight fully-loaded with such features as: satellite nav., paddle shiters on the steering wheel, alloy rims, an upgraded audio system, and of course cruise. The Insight and the Prius are clear competitors but Honda is determined to knock Toyota out of the competitive market to become the hybrid leader.

On the other side of the coin, the Toyota Prius has a 160 horsepower 1.8 liter engine uses 3 modes of operation. The EV mode allows the Prius to run on battery power alone, the ECO mode’s responsibility is to ensure the optimum gas mileage is obtained, and then the Power Mode give more power and throttle response.Toyota has a new Smart Collision system called the PCS which is available on the new Prius.  This system comes equipped with a radar that constantly measures the distance of the car ahead and presumably adjusts brake pressure when probability of frontal collision is high. Toyota has a new system of buttons on the steering wheel that will help keep the driver safe.

Even though the Insight has won the batlle of the price tags, the Prius still has a better MPG rating.Recent fuel economy test give the Honda Insight a rating of 41 MPG; while the Toyota Prius ranks at an impressive 46 MPG.Traveling more than 20,000 miles in only 365 days (when gas is .50 a gallon), so driving the Insight would cost over 00 in fuel a year whereas the Prius would cost just over 00. By owning a Prius, you would save about 53 Gallons of gas and 3 per year, but to break even, it would take over 27 years to break even.Ok the Prius gets way better fuel economy, yet the Insight makes up the difference with its low starting price!

Used Honda Hybrid in Southern California, or buy a New Toyota Hybrid.  See great deals on the New toyota Prius in Northern California.
